What is coin eczema?

Coin-shaped eczema, also known as disc-shaped or coin-shaped eczema, is an inflammatory skin condition that causes itching, swelling, and redness. Patients suffering from coin-like eczema usually notice round or oval areas of inflammation that resemble coins.

Symptoms of coin eczema

The main symptoms of coin eczema are rash, itching, dry skin, and redness. The rash is usually round or oval patches that may be covered with crusts or scales. These spots may be red, pink, or brown and usually occur symmetrically on both sides of the body.

Localization of the rash

Coin eczema occurs most commonly on the hands and feet, but can appear on any part of the body. In children, especially infants, coinous eczema may be located on the skin of the face and neck.

Itching is one of the most uncomfortable symptoms of coinous eczema, especially in children. It can be so severe that it disrupts sleep and daily activities.

Causes of coinous eczema

The causes of montiform eczema are still unclear, but are thought to include genetic predisposition, immune disorders, and environmental exposures including stress, skin infections, and dry skin.

Diagnosis of montiform eczema

Diagnosis of montiform eczema is based on clinical history and history. The dermatologist may perform a visual examination and take a swab or skin biopsy for further investigation.

Treatment of coinous eczema

Topical (topical) steroid medications, such as hydrocortisone ointment, are the first choice in treating montiform eczema. They help reduce inflammation and itching.

In cases where topical treatment is not effective, systemic medications such as immunomodulators (e.g., cyclosporine) or biologics may be used.

Among the non-hormonal treatments for montiform eczema are phototherapy (irradiation of the skin with ultraviolet light) and skin moisturizers.

Skin care recommendations

Regular skin care is important to reduce the symptoms of coinous eczema. It is recommended to use moisturizing creams and ointments, avoid products with perfumes and allergens, and ensure proper hygiene.

Prevention of montiform eczema

Preventing pontic eczema includes avoiding factors that cause the condition to worsen, such as stress, dry air, and contact with allergens. It is also important to provide adequate skin care, including moisturizing.

Coin eczema is an inflammatory skin condition that can cause significant discomfort, especially with inadequate care or treatment. Understanding the nature of this condition, its causes, symptoms, and available treatments can control its manifestations and significantly improve patients' quality of life.
